Daddy Dolls

Here's a wonderful option for your children who are missing daddy, mommy,
brother or sister. The Daddy Doll is easier to carry around than a flat daddy
and much softer to hug.

Flat Daddy/Brother/Son, etc.

One family that was going through a deployment was concerned that their 4 month old daughter would not know Daddy when he returned after an 18 month deployment. So, Mom got a picture of Dad blown up to life size (waist up), put it on foam board and had Flat Daddy sit with them at supper, read books to their daughter and soon was traveling to birthday parties and church. Mom also made a scrapbook of everywhere that Flat Daddy had gone, so real Daddy could see what he been up to when he did get home. We have one made of Scott and we love it, not only to have him “present” in the house, but also for the humor in it. My church started an adult Sunday School class on marriage, so I brought Flat Husband along with me and everyone had a good laugh – even me! Here are the instructions on getting your own Flat Daddy:

v Finished size measured using either person’s width between shoulder or the measurement between shoulder seam on clothing left at home. Use a printing source that is capable of copying blueprints or has a “plotter”. They need to enlarge from a high quality 8x10 photo. (I e-mailed the photo to the printer.)

v Tip figure slightly forward when using soldier in pictures to avoid glare.

v The printer laminated mine, which allows me to wipe little fingerprints off it when needed.

v Through KM Graphics in Worthington , MN the cost was $55.00. See email address below for specific questions.

Meeting and Seeing off your Soldier at the Airport

Military families can meet their incoming and outgoing family members at the gate by getting a gate pass from the airline the soldier is traveling with. Family member should go to the ticket counter and request a gate pass directly from the airline. For the Soldier that is incoming please make sure you know all information of your soldier before going to the counter ie. Flight number, soldiers name, seating ect…

OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT THE YOUTH OF SOLDIERS

Soon many soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard will return from dangerous deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.  They will not be the same as they were before they left—and their families will have changed as well. Large numbers of these soldiers are experiencing difficulties upon homecoming and are struggling with reintegration.  Fortunately, many resources are available for the soldiers…but, what about their children?

To date there have been very few resources available for teens whose parent has experienced a traumatic event.  A new book has just been published titled Finding My Way: A Teen’s Guide to Living with a Parent Who Has Experienced Trauma.  Gail Mossman, Youth Coordinator of the Minnesota National Guard, said “in a few months there will be thousands of kids in Minnesota who will need this book!” However, funds are limited. Therefore, we are asking you to consider making a donation to get copies of this important book into the hands of the kids of the MN National Guard! Thank you!
